Step 1
Choose the quickest way to record the meal.
Use a photo when the meal is in front of you, describe it when words are easier, or enter values yourself. Nothing enters your diary yet.
Photo
Take a picture or choose one from your library. With Pro, Cross Calories prepares an editable estimate of the visible foods and drinks.
Description
Type the foods, amounts, sauces, and drinks you remember. With Pro, the description becomes an editable estimate.
Manual entry
Enter calories and the nutrition values you know. This is useful for a food label or whenever you prefer your own figures.
Saved meal
Reuse a meal you have already checked. Cross Calories copies its confirmed values locally without requesting another estimate.
Step 2
Make the estimate yours.
Review the food names, portions, calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, and any uncertainty shown. Change anything that does not match your meal, then confirm once. Today updates from the confirmed values, and you can edit or remove the meal later.
Step 3
Tell the chart when the food day is complete.
Mark a day complete when it contains every meal you wanted to record. If you are still logging, the calories and macros already entered remain visible and the day is marked incomplete. You can also return to a past date to add, edit, or remove a meal.
- CompleteAll intended meals are in the diary.
- IncompleteKnown values are shown, with a clear incomplete-day marker.
- MissingNo value is invented when nothing was recorded.
Step 4
Add the context you want to compare.
Food alone is enough to start. When it helps, add short Body and Mind check-ins, last night’s sleep, weight, or the day’s qualitative activity. These records stay optional.
Body and Mind
Record how the day felt using short scales and optional context.
Sleep and weight
Add sleep details or a weight record only when you choose.
Daily activity
Choose a simple level relative to your usual day.
Sport session
Enter an approximate calorie value and its date. You decide whether it changes the separate count after sport. Food calories remain visible.
Step 5
Put your records on the same dates.
Trends shows confirmed calories and nutrition across 7, 30, or 90 days. Add up to five optional comparisons, such as sleep, mood, Body, activity, sport, or weight, or place a measure in a separate chart.
- Shared datesCompare how selected values moved across the same period.
- Distinct scalesEach measure keeps a readable scale instead of pretending the units match.
- Visible gapsMissing records stay empty and incomplete food days stay marked.
Similar movement on a chart can be worth noticing, but it does not show that one measure caused the other.
Your choices
Use familiar units and share only what you choose.
In You, choose Metric for kilograms and centimetres or Imperial for pounds, feet, and inches. Weight values in Trends and My Summary follow the same choice.
Your confirmed diary, daily records, and charts are stored on your iPhone. A resized photo or meal description is sent for analysis only when you request an estimate. You also decide whether meal photos remain on the device.
My Summary is prepared on your device. Choose its dates and sections, then create a PDF, copy the text, or share it with a person or tool you trust.

FAQ
Common questions
How accurate is a meal estimate?
It is an approximation. Recipes, oils, preparation, portions, and photo quality can change the result. Review and edit the proposal before you confirm it.
Does Cross Calories save an estimate automatically?
No. The meal enters your diary only after you confirm the reviewed values.
What can I use without a new estimate?
You can enter a meal manually, reuse a saved meal, record daily context, explore Trends, and create My Summary. New photo and description estimates require Cross Calories Pro and access to the analysis service.
What happens when a food day is incomplete?
Every known calorie and nutrition value stays visible. Cross Calories adds an incomplete-day marker so you do not mistake the total for a full day.
Are sport calories exact?
No. Sport energy is an approximate value you enter. It remains separate from food calories, and you choose whether it affects the displayed count after sport.
Can Trends tell me why something changed?
Trends helps you compare records on the same dates. It does not prove that food, sleep, mood, activity, sport, or weight caused a change in another measure.
What happens when analysis is unavailable?
The app explains the failure and keeps local features available. You can retry later, describe the meal, use a saved meal, or add known values manually.
How do I cancel or restore Pro?
Cancel or manage the plan in your Apple Account settings. Use Restore Purchases in You to check an existing subscription on the same Apple Account.
Is Cross Calories medical advice?
No. Cross Calories is a nutrition and general wellness journal for adults. Speak to a qualified professional about diagnosis, treatment, or personal medical care.
